Soil Constraint Assessments and Soil Pit Analysis

AgriSci believe that a paddock’s potential is limited by its most major constraint and often simply adding more will not improve the outcome for the farmer.

Workshops

Cassie is in high demand to conduct or present at a range of soils workshops.

Land Use
Assessments

Soil Sampling Service

agrisci.jpg

AgriSci are a Fertcare accredited organisation, with both Dave and Cassie being Fertcare accredited advisors.

AgriSci own a Daybreak Hydraulic Soil Corer that can take deep soil samples to at least 1200mm with a choice of either 38mm or 50mm core diameters depending on the application, with 50mm cores being required for measuring soil carbon. The corer is able to side shift over 300mm off centre in either direction which makes it especially suited to collecting samples in small plot trials. This capability also makes it easy to target sample collection from either in row or between row depending on the reason for testing.

AgriSci work closely with Rimik agricultural engineers who can develop custom soil tubes for out-of-the-ordinary jobs.

Whilst AgriSci are accredited advisors with Nutrient Advantage, samples can also be sent to the client’s laboratory of choice.

AgriSci are able to collect and interpret routine soil nutrient samples, in addition to working with farmers to understand the issues and constraints they face and can tailor the sampling strategy to specifically study these issues.

Workshops

Cassie is in high demand to conduct or present at a range of soils workshops. From presenting in meeting rooms through to conducting workshops from the depths of a soil pit, Cassie has the unique ability to present complex scientific principles in a format that farmers and agronomists can easily understand. Cassie’s ability to communicate and engage in this way was awarded in 2019 with the

AgriSci can offer a complete package from organising the whole day on the client’s behalf, to digging soil pits, or just simply presenting information or leading practical workshops. AgriSci can also undertake pre-workshop assessments of the site, including the collecting of soil samples for analysis prior to the day so that required information is on hand.

Soil Constraint Assessments and Soil Pit Analysis

AgriSci believe that a paddock’s potential is limited by its most major constraint and often simply adding more will not improve the outcome for the farmer. AgriSci believe that the first step in improving productivity is to thoroughly understand the constraints. To help understand this, AgriSci use targeted soil sampling based on a range of geospatial data, historical yield and NDVI maps. At times it is beneficial to actually dig soil pits to gain a better understanding of what is happening below the surface. AgriSci can recommend where the pits are dug and facilitate the analysis of the pits. If required, AgriSci can organise to dig the pits and have them filled at completion.

Land Use Assessments

Increasingly governments at all levels are requiring an understanding of the soil before development can occur. Banks are also looking for clients to present soil assessments prior to purchasing land. AgriSci has the experience and knowledge to undertake these assessments on behalf of government organisations, banks or farming clients. In order to undertake these assessments, they use a range of historical freely available data to then undertake targeted soil sampling and if necessary, will dig soil pits.

Often these assessments also need to consider topography, water supply, native vegetation etc. AgriSci can also assist with these assessments and where requirements fall outside of the experience of Dave and Cassie, they have a network of trusted specialists that they can engage to assist, including geospatial experts, agricultural engineers, hydrologists, and catchment modelling etc

Fertiliser Programs

AgriSci can develop complete fertiliser programs for farmers. AgriSci not only consider the nutrient requirements of the crop or pasture but also design realistic programs based on known soil constraints, climatic conditions and yield potential. They can also work with agronomists to develop variable rate nutrition maps.
